Effective utilization of plastic wastes at Taga factory

Taga has begun an initiative to improve the effective utilization rate of plastic waste.
Half of the plastic waste at the Taga factory has been disposed of instead of thoughtfully recycled.
Inkjet printers consist of hundreds of plastic parts manufactured by plastic molding machines, so the team focused on plastic wastes, such as purged plastics, from the changeover process and gate plastics from the molding process. In July 2023, Taga factroy signed a contract with a recycling company to process purged plastics and gate plastics, expecting a result in an increase in the effective utilization rate of plastic waste from 50% to 70%.

Reuse of wooden pallets at Michigan City factory, Hitachi Global Air Power US, LLC

About 500 new wooden pallets are annually used for shipment of sheet metals to the Michigan City factory. Once the pallets are used, they are shredded in the Michigan City factory, collected by a waste provider and made into compost. However, since many of the pallets can still be used, the Michigan City factory has started an initiative to return pallets to the sheet metal supplier for reuse, with the exception of pallets that are found to be significantly damaged or weathered in cooperation with the supplier.
Although still in the trial period, 130 pallets were reused, expecting a result to reduce the number of new wooden pallets for sheet metals by at least 80%. In the future, the Michigan City factory plans to optimize the operation of this initiative and expand to other wooden pallets.
