EnvironmentModal Shift
Hitachi electric motors and the Drive Systems Division (Narashino factory) were designated to receive the Eco-Rail Mark at the 16th meeting of MLIT's Eco-Rail Mark Management and Certification Committee (November 20, 2008). Hitachi electric motors are the first products in the motor industry to receive the Eco-Rail Mark designation in Japan.

The Eco-Rail Mark designates products and companies that are working actively to engage with global environmental issues by utilizing environmentally friendly railway freight transport. Railway freight transport produces only one-seventh the CO2 emissions of shipping by truck and it has been enthusiastically embraced in recent years by many companies as a more environmentally friendly method of shipping goods.
The Drive Systems Division (Narashino factory), which adopted railway freight transport early on and has been an industry leader in its efforts to implement a modal shift, was recognized by METI as a Green Logistics Partnership model project in the 2006 fiscal year.

The Narashino factory received the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Director-General's Award as a business practicing outstanding energy management (freight shipper category) for fiscal 2009.
