Improving the Environmental Performance of Products and Services through Eco-Design
In order to improve the environmental performance of products and services as part of the ongoing efforts of the Hitachi Group, Hitachi Industrial Equipment System promotes eco-design employing Hitachi's "environmentally conscious design assessment" when designing all products and services. This assessment process involves multifaceted evaluation and improvements intended to reduce the environmental impact of our business operations with regard to a total of 30 environmental aspects at each stage of the lifecycle of the product or service, including effects on climate change, resource depletion, and degradation of the ecosystem.
In addition, in order to satisfy the environmentally conscious design requirements specified by IEC 62430*, Hitachi Industrial Equipment System endeavors to understand stakeholder needs related to compliance with environmental standards, alongside environmentally conscious assessment, and to promote the integration of environmentally conscious design processes into existing management systems for design and development.
Furthermore, we perform lifecycle assessment (LCA) on all its major products and quantitatively evaluates impact in terms of primary factors affecting the global environment through depletion of mineral resources, fossil fuel consumption, water consumption, climate change, and air pollution.
