Deployment of Pumps with PM Motors for Pressurized Supply of Industrial Water
Outline
Implementation date: November 2017-
- HE pump: 7.5kW x 4 units (with backup units)
- Maximum water supply capacity: 3.0m3/min
- Constant-pressure control using 4 pumps
Key points of environmental improvement
In 1962 the water tower at the Narashino factory that had been used to supply water by means of drop pressure was decommissioned and replaced with a new direct delivery system utilizing pressurized water supply. Controller-integrated Pumps with PM motors (HE pump) were employed, and a system for controlling the number of small pumps in operation helped boost energy efficiency.

Results
- Reduction in power consumption of 31.8 MWh/annually (approximately ¥600,000) compared with previous system employing high-capacity motor pumps (30 kW × 2, inverter control)
Note: Based on electricity cost of ¥19/kWh - The smaller pumps used require only 40% of the space occupied by the previous units.
- Using more pumps helps avoid suspension of water supply.

Introduction of LED Lighting in Factories
Outline
As part of its ongoing energy conservation efforts, Hitachi Industrial Equipment System upgraded the ceiling lighting at its business offices to LED lighting fixtures.
- Upgrading of ceiling lighting to LED lighting fixtures
- Power consumption was reduced by switching from the previous mercury lamps to LED lighting fixtures.
- Reconsideration of number of ceiling lighting fixtures
- Power consumption was reduced by reconsidering the height and number of lighting fixtures (while maintaining the same level of brightness).

Results
Energy savings from LED conversions implemented in FY2020-2022
- Power savings: 623 MWh/year*1
- Reduction in CO2 emissions: 281 tons of CO2/year*2
- 1 Reduction realized through replacement of fluorescent lights and mercury lamps.
- 2 Calculated using “Emissions Coefficients by Electrical Business Category – General Power Transmission and Distribution Businesses – Conversion Values,” compiled by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.
Volunteer tree-planting program at "Hitachi no Ki" forest
Implementation date: October 2017-
Key points of environmental improvement
In recent years, pine forests around our business sites have been severely damaged by dead pine trees caused by pine weevils. In response, we agreed with the "Reforestation Plan (Corporate Reforestation Assist Project)" sponsored by Niigata Prefecture and organized a "Hitachi Tree" forest "Tree Planting Volunteer Activity" jointly with the local government (Niigata Prefecture and Tainai City).
On the day of the event, 120 employees, their families, and local residents participated in planting 980 saplings of resistant red pine trees in an area of 0.2 hectare. After working hard at the tree planting, the participants served stewed potatoes and deepened exchanges with local residents. From the viewpoint of the importance of CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities, this project is planned to be carried out over a three-year period.

"Build a Birdhouse" Class at the Nakajo Factory
Implementation date: October 2017-
Key points of environmental improvement
An Inari Festival celebration is held at the Nakajo factory every autumn as part of our community engagement program. One event is a "build a birdhouse " class aimed at bringing children into closer contact with the ecosystem around them through birdhouses. On the appointed day, children can hear explanations of how to mount a birdhouse, what sorts of birds use birdhouses, and how to distinguish among different bird species. There are also panels on display illustrating the behaviors of local birds.
