Low-voltage Insulation Monitoring System i-moni
Overview
If insulation deteriorates and a sudden accident occurs, significant
damage may result, such as equipment stoppage or equipment burnout
due to fire.
Use of the Ior method allows the leakage current
of only the hazardous resistive component to be detected by
excluding the influence of the load side (harmonics) and the
capacitor leakage current.
Constant monitoring to visualize and
find signs of deterioration also contributes to measures against
sudden downtime costs.
Count on i-moni for preventive
maintenance of electrical equipment essential to factories and
buildings.

Problems with conventional measures
Earth leakage breaker
- Harmonics and capacitor portion cause false detection
- Power suddenly stops as insulation degradation progresses
Insulation resistance measurement (Meggering)
- Signs are missed because measurements are taken only during periodic inspections
- Leakage under no-load operation cannot be determined
Benefits of introducing insulation monitoring
- 24-hour monitoring eliminating the need for power interruption
- Management possible in terms of effective component leakage current (Ior), which may lead to actual accidents
- Early detection and proactive management of insulation degradation signs (preventive maintenance)
- Reduced insulation resistance testing during annual inspection

Types with built-in earth leakage relay function
Low-voltage insulation monitoring unit + Multi-channel earth leakage relay

Low-voltage insulation monitoring unit with earth leakage relay function

The current detection method of the earth leakage relay section is
the Io method, not Ior.
The standards for earth leakage relays
conform to JIS C 8374:1991.
- A ZCT is required for each circuit to be detected. One ZCT per circuit monitors insulation and detects leakage, with three relay output contacts per circuit (for caution, alert, and earth leakage relay).
Application example: Insulation monitoring is desired and leakage tripping function is also required
Compared to the conventional method, installation space for earth
leakage relays is eliminated, which can significantly save on
installation costs.
One ZCT per circuit can be used for insulation
monitoring and earth leakage relay.
- 400 V system circuit
- Wet location
- Damp location (Article 15 of the Ministerial Ordinance on Technical Standards for Electrical Equipment)
Application example: Upgrading of the current multi-channel earth leakage relay to insulation monitoring is desired
Cost-saving functional upgrades are possible according to the circuit.
