Health Management Strategy and Action Details
HIES, in order to create a workplace environment in which employees can work in an energetic and forward-looking manner and fully express their individuality and abilities, is endeavoring to "improve and increase employee awareness of physical condition and health" and "prevent reduced productivity due to lifestyle illnesses, injury, and mental health issues" as key business issues related to "health management." Specifically, HIES has implemented "health investment" policies from the following four perspectives.
(1)Implementation of health checkups and follow-up measures
- Thoroughgoing efforts to achieve 100% participation in regular health checkups and provision of health guidance for high-risk individuals to prevent them from becoming seriously ill.
(2)Health promotion activities
- Working to raise the health awareness of employees through a variety of seminars held in cooperation with Hitachi Health Insurance Society and other external organizations, and to strengthen health literacy through the use of smartphone apps and the like.
(3)Mental health measures
- Endeavoring, through more active communication within the workplace, to achieve early identification of and implement appropriate measures to deal with stress related ailments affecting persons with mental health issues, as well as implementing various types of mental health related education for employees.
(4)Work practice reforms
- Increasing the flexibility and variety of work styles by making use of options such as flextime and remote work, and maintaining a workplace where a wide variety of employees can thrive by making it easier to work in.
- Preventing employee health issues due to overwork by means of throughgoing daily task management by managers.
- Working to achieve the continued growth of each individual and the organization by treating differences in gender, nationality, race, religion, background, age, and sexual orientation as "each person's individual characteristics," while respecting and making the most of such characteristics as organizational strengths.
These policies have produced results in terms of "enhancing each employee's subjective view of health," "reducing the rate of employees at work in spite of mental or physical issues (presenteeism)," "reducing the rate of employees on leave due to mental or physical issues (absenteeism)," and "raising the engagement index." Through "health management" initiatives, HIES aims to strengthen a sustainable business foundation supporting growth, increase value for customers, and contribute to the advancement of society globally and to the environment.
